PRINCIPLES OF CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION (PCD)
The PCD course is an introductory course that will enable the student to have a better understanding of construction documentation (specifications, drawings and schedules), products, bidding procedures and contracts. It is also pre-cursor to all the other CSC education courses.

The PCD course is a prerequisite for the Certified Technical Representative (CTR) and the Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) designations from CSC. Successful completion of the PCD may be credited towards the experience component requirements for the Registered Specification Writer (RSW) designation.

The course is designed for individuals involved in the construction industry, who at any point in their career are required to produce, read, supply products for, or rely on, the project manual/specification. In other words, it is designed for anyone in construction, whether they work as a designer, consultant, contractor or supplier.

The focus is to emphasize the relationship that exists between specifications and drawings, and the role of the industry participants. Contract documents and the project manual have an intrinsic relationship with each other, with standard pre-printed contract documents, and with associated documents; this course explains these relationships.

SPECIFIER 1 & SPECIFIER 2
(Formerly the RSW 2 and 3)
The Specifier 1 and 2 courses are being updated and will be available in September 2008.

These courses provide an in-depth look at the project manual, its parts and usage. The courses also address some of the latest information and trends in construction used today.

The courses are designed for those wanting to know more about the preparation and processes needed to produce quality documents. The courses will serve as a refresher for the practicing specification writer, and will also assist those who are preparing for or are enrolled in the CSC Registered Specification Writer (RSW) Program.

The courses are not pre-requisites to obtaining the RSW designation, however successful completion of the courses reduces the number of hours required to complete the experience portion of the registration process.

CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION (CCA)
Contract administration involves making decisions and the timely flow of information and decisions to enable completion of the project as required by the contract documents including review and observation of the construction project. This is important to the Owner and Consultant not only to determine that the work is proceeding in conformity with the contract documents, but also because it allows a final opportunity to detect any inaccuracies, ambiguities or inconsistencies in the design.

The objective of the CCA program is to improve construction contract administration by providing education related to the administration and enforcement of contract requirements during the construction phase of the project.

This advanced level course will take the individual beyond the concepts previously introduced in the PCD course. Although some of the same topics are included in this course, the depth of understanding and explanation exceed that of the PCD course.

The course is designed for those individuals involved in construction administration, including Contract Administrators, Property Managers, Architects, Engineers, Interior Designers, Specification Consultants, Building Authorities, and Bonding and Insurance Agencies. The student will have successfully completed the PCD - Principles of Construction Documentation course.
