TERMS OF REFERENCE

About CSC
Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) is a national multi-disciplinary, non-profit association with chapters across Canada. CSC is committed to delivering progressive education, certification, publications and professional networking opportunities for the design and construction industry.

To this end, CSC pursues the study of systems and procedures which will improve the co-ordination and dissemination of documentation relevant to the construction process.
CSC seeks to enhance the quality of the design and management aspects of construction activity through programs, publication, education, professional development, and certification, believing that in so doing it can best contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the industry.

About the Scholarship
CSC is firmly rooted in growing and developing the next generation of professionals. As such, this scholarship has been created to increase awareness and understanding of specification writing, contract administration and technical representation to foster strong and healthy generations of professionals in the design and construction industry.

Number of Awards
CSC is proud to present two scholarships valued at $2,500.00 each.

Eligibility Requirements
The scholarship is open to:
  1. Students who have successfully completed their first year of an architecture or construction program that has implemented the CSC Principles of Construction Documentation Course as a part of their full-time curriculum. This scholarship is open to students from Red River College, George Brown College and Humber College.
  2. Students who are passionate about specification writing, material research, contract administration, technical representation and someone who is generally passionate about their work, the community and the wellbeing of the design and construction industry.
  3. Students who demonstrate to the jury that they are the most deserving based upon a) academic achievement, b) financial need, c) long-term goals, d) interest in specification writing, contract administration and/or technical representation and e) extra-curricular activities.

The Jury
CSC will appoint a jury of minimum three persons. The jury will include one member of the College of Fellows of CSC. No more than two scholarships will be awarded in any given year and the jury reserves the right not to award a scholarship should a winner not be determined from among the applicants.

How to Apply
Each applicant shall submit the following electronically, in Adobe PDF format to scholarship@csc-dcc.ca:
  1. Duly completed application form;
  2. Academic record (transcript), certified by the educational institution – scanned copies will be permitted, however, if selected, the original will be required;
  3. A statement informing us, in no more than 1,200 words, why this scholarship interests you, why you should be considered, your long-term career goals and how it will benefit you. Please use 11 point Times New Roman font, single-spaced;
  4. Supporting materials (no more than 10 pages) including but not limited to student or work experience activity, etc., if required; and
  5. Contact information of two references from faculty and/or industry.
  6. Submissions must be received by 31 May. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Notification to Successful Applicants
CSC shall notify successful applicants in writing. CSC reserves the right to promote the scholarship program and its recipient(s) using social media, website, print media, etc. Successful applicants may be interviewed by Construction Canada Magazine.

Modification of these Terms of Reference
The Terms of Reference may be modified by the CSC Executive Council and Board of Directors.
